A week before I started the next leg in my career, I decided to have a relaxing time at The Windy Ridge Hotel in Tagaytay. It was our first time there and I had such high expectations.
I don’t think I have ever posted a bad review but this will come close to it. I still aim to be as objective as possible and I will try to enumerate both the good and the bad.
One of the good things about the Windy Ridge is that it’s conveniently located very near the Tagaytay Rotunda so it is quite close to most of Tagaytay’s attractions. However, parking space is limited. During our stay, it was not really a problem. The downside to it being so accessible is that you also can’t take a walk outside without fear of getting run over. It’s right along the main road. If you go out back and visit the ‘garden’ and pool, there is a small gate which leads into a street that looked like it would a nice place to jog and explore, however the gate was locked tight.
We booked two rooms, the Green Suite (PHP 4,200 for 2 pax) and one standard room (PHP3,500 for 2 pax) both with breakfast for 2 pax. Extra bed is PHP750.00, with breakfast. The rooms were unremarkable. They were plain and did not look like they had been renovated for some time. That includes the bathroom. 😦
The rates they have boast of including breakfast, but let me say that out of all the B&B’s that we have tried, this is probably the worst breakfast we’ve ever had (2 thin red hotdogs, an egg, rice and unripe bananas). It was quite meager and sad looking. 😦 Not appetizing at all.
We paid a visit to the swimming pool, but it was another sad affair. It was located in the garden and it was quite small but clean. The surrounding garden was also a bit sorry looking. It did not look well maintained and just the area had a general feel of disrepair. We did not stay long.
One of the few things I did appreciate was that the staff was very cordial and accommodating. They were quite attentive and they even offered free car wash. Too bad the place did not have more to offer. Another thing that I liked was the balcony since they had a good view of the lake. It was a good place to take nice photos with the family. However, it does not have a sold roof so it can be quite hot during mid-day.
My one caveat about this post is that we were there in July 2013. I have no idea if they have made some renovations to the place so this is based on what we saw when we were there almost a year ago. I guess that is the down side to late posts. Based on that visit, I would have to rate it a 2/5. To date, I have no plans of visiting again but I hope they do think about renovating so that they can take advantage of the location. I also hope that they can provide a more appetizing if not ample breakfast.
