Taal Vista Hotel is another well known attraction in Tagaytay. It’s conveniently located along Kilometer 60, Aguinaldo Highway, Tagaytay City. It was originally created by the owners of Manila Hotel and named the Taal Vista Lodge in 1939. It was later acquired by Henry Sy of SM Investments Corporation in 2002. Through the years, it has been known for it’s spacious view deck, one of the prime spots in which to view the Taal lake and volcano. Since then it has undergone a lot of changes and can now be described as quite modern and classy while still maintaining it’s old charm.
These days, you can choose from a number of rooms if you want to stay in the hotel. They have rooms at the Lake Wing and the Mountain Wing. During this particular stay, we got a deluxe room in the mountain wing. Our rate included buffet breakfast at the Cafe Veranda for 2 at PHP7,000/night. If you want to add an extra bed, rate is around PHP1,000 without breakfast. Now, I believe they also have free WiFi and parking is of course complimentary. In case you want to book, try calling the hotel first since they regularly offer discounts for SM Advantage cardholders. It’s a bit pricey compared to bed and breakfast places that are abundant in the city, so that helps. There was also nothing spectacular about their buffet breakfast.
As you step into the main building, you will find yourself in the original lobby, now renovated and installed with a comfy lounge complete with fireplace. It’s a nice place to sit back, relax and enjoy some piano music. If you prefer having lunch or dining at the Cafe Veranda, you might just find yourself watching one of their cultural shows which is quite entertaining.
Just outside the lobby is the wide expanse of lawn which is one of the things we love about the place. It’s perfect for kids learning to walk or just for relaxing and watching the view. From there you also have easy access down to the first class view deck where you have a perfect view of the lake.
Another feature that they added with the renovation was the swimming pool. I really love the design, quite picturesque and inviting. Since my daughter was quite young at the time, we weren’t able to try it out. We will definitely try it the next time we stay.
One other advantage of staying at the Taal Vista Hotel is that it’s quite near to other popular attractions in Tagaytay like the Casino Filipino which is walking distance from the hotel. The newly built Sky Ranch is also right beside the hotel. That’s not a surprise since it is also owned by Henry Sy.
The hotel continues to be one of our favorite hang-outs when we are in the city. If you want a good view of the lake in a classy setting and also conveniently located to other popular attractions, this is the best hotel in town. I give it a 4/5.
