Review: Christmas at The Peninsula Manila 2014

Peninsula Card and Coupons

Peninsula Card and Coupons

Before I go to my post on our stay at the Peninsula, I want to talk a bit about The Peninsula Card which we used during our stay.

A few months ago, I got calls from two separate hotels asking me if I was interested in getting special membership cards with lots of perks and discounts good for a year. It was actually quite hard to decide between the Sofitel Manila and The Peninsula because we also loved staying at the Sofitel last year. Value for money won however and we decided to get the Peninsula Card. It cost me around PHP9,000 and includes a booklet full of various coupons which can be used for overnight stays, buffet meals, free cakes, wine, etc.

We decided to use our free overnight  stay  to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary and enjoy the Christmas ambiance in Makati at the same time. The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of Makati at the corner of Ayala and Makati Avenue. It is located near popular malls like Glorietta and Greenbelt and is also right across from the Ayala Triangle Park.

We were able to get a deluxe room (valued at about PHP 10,000 to 12,ooo) which faced the Ayala Avenue so we had a nice view of the lighted street. We really loved our room and our daughter Sam could not get enough of the comfy bed. It was quite spacious and newly renovated.

Another perk we got from The Peninsula membership is that when I was able to refer a friend, we also got free afternoon tea buffet for two at the lobby. I wasn’t able to take photos.. just one on my instagram page. We were just too busy eating. It was quite a spread mostly of finger sandwiches, breads and pastries, fruits and Filipino kakanin. It costs around PHP1000 per head. By the end, we were too full we decided not to eat the dinner buffet at The Escolta. It was a coincidence though that it was closed for dinner that night.

Since we stayed at the Sofitel around the same time last year, we could not help but compare how much more decked up it was vs. The Peninsula. The decorations at the hotel were much more subtle and classic. Since the lobby was pretty grand in itself, it did not detract from the experience. It actually has one of the nicest lobbies among all of the hotels I have been to.

Here are some of our shots of the hotel lobby and balcony.

At the balcony

It was unfortunate that we did not get a chance to see any shows at the lobby but there was a live orchestra performing at the balcony that evening however they were playing mostly jazz songs. It would have been nice to hear some Christmas songs. Although there were a bunch of couches and lounge chairs at the balcony, it was too bad that they were not serving anything from the lobby.

We did enjoy the pool amenities despite the bit of rain we had that day. It was very clean and well maintained with an adequate number of pool chairs and attentive staff. The surrounding garden and poolside only added to the experience. It was quite deep on one side though so be sure to supervise your kids, especially the young ones.

Here are some of the shots from the pool during the evening and the morning.

Our room also came with free breakfast buffet at Escolta for two. In this area, I would have to say that we enjoyed the buffet at Spiral more. It was not a huge spread but it was adequate enough. After all, how much can one person eat right? I also wasn’t able to take photos so you can view a couple on my instagram account.

Overall, we still enjoyed our hotel staycation at the Peninsula Manila and we are looking forward to spending more time there and enjoying the perks of our membership card. We give it a 4/5. Plus points for the Peninsula membership card. 🙂 🙂 🙂
