If you have been reading the posts on our blog, you must know by now that we love exploring the local resorts here in the Philippines. I mean, before we even try out international destinations, it would be good to see what our country has to offer right? So many foreigners and tourists come to the Philippine to relax and enjoy themselves.. there must be something awesome right here. I haven’t even mentioned the cost factor. It’s only logical that it would be cheaper here, right? And we have oh so much to offer!
That aside, it’s always nice to discover new places even if we do go back to the resorts that we have tried before. Sometimes it takes a lot of research and luck to find places that we would love to go back to. Oftentimes, we resort to surfing the web and inquiring with the resorts, reading blogs such as ours to learn about first-hand experiences. It’s time-consuming and tiring and even with all that research, you arrive at the resort crossing your fingers and hoping it’s a good find. This time, we got lucky again.
Blue Waters Calatagan Beach House is a private vacation home which has been opened to the public. It’s located in Calatagan, Batangas and is about 2.5 to 3 hours away from Manila. It has 6 rooms which can accommodate anywhere from 5 to 11 pax. You can even rent the whole house for a discounted rate. Room rates are about 4000 PHP per night.
Now what did we love about Blue Waters? First, it’s actually located within a private subdivision called Coral Shores so aside from the homeowners and the guests, it’s not crowded especially during non-peak months. We went there in February so we pretty much had the place all to ourselves.
It’s not a hotel so don’t expect to just order food. They have a nicely equipped kitchen complete with utensils, cookware, fridge etc. That served us just fine because we felt like we were in our very own beach house and we could cook what we wanted. We even had a barbecue in the garden.
It’s quite a big house with three levels. Tip: Be careful of the stairs, it was unfortunate, but my mom actually fell down the stairs during our stay. Good thing she was not seriously injured. Steps are uneven in size and winding. There is a lot of sitting room within the house and in the garden. The property and home are all very well maintained and clean. You also have your own swimming pool right there. Night swimming in the pool is also a good option.
If you would like to visit the beach, it’s just a 8-10 minute leisurely walk away. The gated community has their very own access to the beach. To be clear, it’s not a resort so there aren’t any cabanas or picnic huts by the beach. You can just enjoy the golden sand and have a nice wade in the water or watch the fishermen haul in their catch for the day. Tip: If you visit the beach early in the morning, you can even buy freshly caught fish. The water is about knee deep right in front of the beach so if you want to swim in deeper water, you should walk along the foot bridge to the very end. Just be careful. It’s a bit slippery. There, the water is already about waist to chest deep and there are lots of fish and sea creatures like starfish, sea urchins and corals.
Tip: Other activities you might want to try is set up a tent down by the beach when it’s nearing sunset and just watch the scenery change as the sun goes down. At night, we also enjoyed stargazing since it was so clear and you could see a million stars in the sky. We even went to the beach at night and turned off all the lights just so we could enjoy the spectacular view.
If you would like a nice quiet place to just enjoy time with family and friends, this is a good place to visit. If you’re the type who is looking for a party place or your typical beach hangout with clubs and bars, this is not for you. If you don’t enjoy cooking, preparing your own meals or washing the dishes, this place is not for you either. They don’t have tv or wifi but they have a sound system where you can plug in your mp3 players so be prepared to have lots and lots of bonding time with your family or friends.
My family and I enjoyed our stay very much and we plan to come back. Now that it’s summer time, they are always quite full during weekends so it’s best to reserve early or try booking your stay during weekdays. Bring lots of food for cooking, your binoculars, sunblock and swimming gear.
Overall, we give it a rating of 5/5. It was a nice experience and who knew we could enjoy so many activities in one place despite the lack of technology and modern gadgets.
